INCOME AND TAXABILITY ANALYSIS RELEASE 2.11 PAGE 1 OF 5
This function is used to analyze EXPECTED income (not necessarily equal to in-
come actually received) in several different ways: by individual security, by
security type, by taxability and by month and quarter. All selected purchase
lots within the same security are combined so there is only one entry on the
screen for each security. Purchase lots which had been sold on or before the
report date are not included; purchase lots which had been acquired after the
report date are not included either. Note that the Portfolio Analyzer does not
keep track of actually received income.
Each entry is shown on two lines. The first line of the column headings (actu-
ally, the second line down from the top of the screen) corresponds to the top
line of each entry; the second line of column headings corresponds to the bot-
tom line of each entry. The topmost line on the screen is a report heading.
You should have noticed a solid video block near the left side of the screen.
It can be moved up and down, and the display can be "scrolled" up and down, by
using the up-arrow, down-arrow, PgUp, PgDn, Home and End keys. In this way you
can "browse" throughout the portfolio and view the status of each individual
security. The video block serves only as a marker here, as none of the data
items can be changed in this program module.

In this program there are two different data formats. One format shows yield
on security cost basis, and annual income before and after taxes (tax rates are
set in the purchase transaction program, which is accessed from the Master Menu
by using the B function). The other format shows yield based on current market
value. NOTE: The current market values are entered in the Add/Delete Securities
screen, which is accessed from the Master Menu by using the A function.
"Yield" is an important measure of security performance. Current market yield
is calculated by dividing annual interest or dividend per share or other unit,
by the current price per unit. It is expressed as a percentage. For example:
a stock selling at $50 and paying an annual dividend of $2 is yielding 4.0%.
To "toggle" between the two data formats, just press the TAB key. When totals
are displayed, there are also two different data formats, which the program
will select automatically.
Entries are displayed in order by security type, symbol or other identifier,
and date of purchase - the same as in the add/delete transactions program.
Aside from "browsing" through your holdings, the available menu choices are
explained in the next screen pages.

M = Monthly and quarterly totals of expected income are displayed on the screen
to aid in budgeting and cash flow analysis. These can be printed with the
(P)rint function, described later.
T = Totals by security type are displayed on the screen. There are two data
formats. If the screen was showing yield based on purchase cost, the totals
will include totals by taxability of income (Federal, State and none). If
the screen was showing yield based on current market value, the totals will
include market value and gain/loss. These can be printed with the (P)rint
function, described later. To switch to the other data format, press Esc
and then press the TAB key.
F = Find the specified symbol. You will be prompted to type in an existing
stock symbol or other security identifier. The program will re-display the
screen in such a manner that the specified security is shown and indicated
with the selector block.
H = Help screen display - displays the information you are looking at now.
X = eXit to the Master Menu.

P = Print the entire portfolio, as of the report date which was specified when
this program started. The formats will be identical to what is displayed
on the screen. In addition to a listing of the entire portfolio, the
printout will include the total screens described previously.
L = List income payments. This function prints a listing of all expected in-
come payments, in order by the year/month in which they should be received.
The year and month of expected receipt are derived from the payment fre-
quency and first month, which are specified in the Add/Delete Securities
screen. The report begins with the year and month of the report date, and
continues on for 11 additional months.
This report is intended for two purposes: First it is a checklist to help
you make sure you received all income payments you are supposed to. To that
end, it has places for you to enter the dates and actual amounts received.
The second purpose is for budgeting or financial planning. Especially if
you are retired and living on fixed income, this is important.
More information about printing follows.

After invoking one of the print functions (L or P), you will be asked if you
want to pause between pages. Reply Y (for Yes) if you are using single sheets
or if you want an opportunity to adjust the printer after each page is printed;
otherwise reply N (for No). Pagination is automatic and assumes 8 1/2 x 11-inch
paper. No special printer features are used or required.
Printing begins on the line where the print head is at, so first make sure the
paper is loaded the way you want. If you have just used your printer for some-
thing else, it may need to be re-set manually before starting.
You can press the Esc key at any time to stop the process. The printing should
stop after a few lines, depending on the size of your print buffer. But if your
printer has a large buffer or you are using a print spooling program, pressing
the Esc key may not stop the printer.
If there is a printer problem such as out of paper or not ready, the program
should trap the error. In some cases the computer may just "hang up" and appear
to do nothing. Try pressing Ctrl-Break if that happens.
